Norman I. Wight is a Registered Environmental Assessor (#5826) and a licensed Private Investigator (#PI 18293) with the State of California. He grew up in Montana and is a graduate of the University of Montana, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. Mr. Wight served four years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1967, Mr. Wight was appointed as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. With assignments in Texas and California, he investigated a wide spectrum of cases, including fugitives, general investigations, white collar crimes, and major crimes. Mr. Wight also served as the Senior Resident Agent of an office in Vista, California, supervising eight other Special Agents. He served as a firearms instructor, and as the principal defensive tactics instructor for the San Diego Division. Mr. Wight was also a team leader for the FBI San Diego SWAT team, and he holds the rank of 4th degree black belt in the Japanese martial art of Aikido.
Since 1987, Mr. Wight has specialized in environmental crime investigations when he co-founded the San Diego Hazardous Waste Task Force, a combined group of federal, state, county, and local government attorneys, investigators, and hazardous materials specialists. As the co-chairman, Mr. Wight was responsible for the filing of complex affidavits for search warrants, and the organization and management of the task force teams necessary to execute them. The San Diego Hazardous Waste Task Force has been frequently recognized nationally for its success and productivity.
Mr. Wight has lectured on the subject of environmental laws and regulations throughout the country, including at the U.S. Department of Justice Advanced Environmental Crimes Seminar. He wrote the curriculum, organized, and taught at state certified environmental crimes schools for California Law Enforcement Officers and regulatory personnel. Mr. Wight has been honored as a “Master Instructor” at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and he was personally presented with a prestigious award by the United States Attorney General for his contributions to environmental law enforcement.
Since 1997, Mr. Wight has been serving private industry as a recognized expert in environmental investigations. His unique experience and background qualifies him to conduct environmental assessments and provide consulting services.
He is a member of the California Hazardous Materials Investigators Association and the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
